Tixkokob, Yucatan

Tixkokob means Place of vipers. The territory in which today is Tixkokob was in pre- Hispanic times part of the province of Ceh-Pech. Still it is not known the precise date when the town was founded, but in 1549 was committed to Captain D. Francisco

Tixkokob is located in the north-central region of the state of Yucatan, bounded on the north by the municipality of Yaxkukul, northeast with Muxupip, east with Cacalchén, on the south with Seye and west with Tixpeual and Merida. The state capital is 20 kilometers from Tixkokob, 62 miles from the tourist center of Chichen Itza and 45 miles from the colonial city of Izamal.
