The Sian Ka'an Biosphere, listed UNESCO World Heritage since 1987, is home of an extensive flora and fauna, with more than 340 species of birds, including roseate spoonbills, white-fronted parrots, egrets, belted kingfish, blue and boat-billed herons, frigate birds, 318 species of butterflies which are a delight for the butterflies lovers.

Sea turtles like the Green Turtle, the Loggerhead, come once a year to nest on the shore of Sian Ka'an.

Besides the many types of trees and plants, some unique to the area, can be observed at the Biosphere. Please keep in mind not to disturb or take souvenirs except pictures from Sian Ka'an to help preserve this beautiful Biosphere.

Sian Ka'an is located South of Tulum, and covers an extensive area (1.3 million acres) between Belize and Mexico. It is well advised to take a tour to enter the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve to be able to discover all the beauty of the site.

There are 2 large bays (Ascension Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay) inside Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve and a large water wetland system and harbors used by the Mayans during centuries as a communication way for trade in all the area.
