Hacienda Santa Maria Xalostoc is a beautiful property from the 16th century which has been converted into a hotel. It used to be a large maguey plantation and cattle ranch measuring about 9 000 acres. By the end of the 18th century it was one of the wealthiest haciendas in the region. After the Mexican Revolution the hacienda s land was divided among the peasants and later abandoned for many years. It remained abandoned until 1995 when it was sold to its current owners. The property underwent such an impressive restoration that it won the National Restoration Award in 2000.
