Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya

Puerto Morelos is a typical fishermen village, located half way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It is 36 km or 57 miles south of Cancun and 32 km or 51 miles north of Playa del Carmen. Puerto Morelos is a worth visiting location because it has a slower beat than that of its neighbor cities.
At only 20 minutes from Cancun International Airport, you will be able to lay down on a charming beach of white sand, in front of the second largest coral barrier of the world.

The best attraction of Puerto Morelos is its proximity to Cancun and Playa del Carmen and at the same time its white sand, peaceful beaches, apart from tourist groups. Its village atmosphere makes it the ideal place to relax during your vacations. We also recommend to visit the many restaurants that are on Puerto Morelos beach, with fresh seafood and fish.

You can find many handicraft stores, convenience stores and even a small supermarket in Puerto Morelos downtown. Close to Cancun - Playa del Carmen freeway, there is a gas station (Pemex) and other souvenirs stores, just a little more expensive than the ones downtown.

You will find the old charm of the fishermen village in downtown, with its wooden boats laying on the beach, its old lighthouse (see picture, locals are betting by guessing the date it will fall down) and the new one. Puerto Morelos is also an ideal place to practice fishing, diving and snorkeling in the Mexican Caribbean.

Puerto Morelos is one of the cheapest places in the Riviera Maya. All the services of the big tourism centers are less than 15 minutes away, yet Puerto Morelos achieved to keep the charm of the small village including fresh catch right from peaceful Caribbean waters.
