Puerto Vallarta - Downtown , Vallarta

Home > Guide > Vallarta > Cities > Puerto Vallarta - Downtown

Puerto Vallarta Downtown, also called Old Town or Viejo Vallarta, is popular for its traditional red-tiled roofs, white buildings and cobblestone streets. Downtown is the heart and soul of Puerto Vallarta, overflowed by a feast of emotions and cultures that will provide you with an unforgettable experience. Vallarta Downtown has an abundant nightlife full of fine dining and local and International nightclubs. The visit is not complete without a stroll and people-watching session on the popular oceanfront Malecon, where you will find marvelous sculptures along the way. With a monumental public art display, one side is lined with shops, restaurants and bars, and a gorgeous bay vista on the other. Artistic performances of all kinds take place here all the time. Spectacular events are frequent at the Los Arcos outdoor amphitheater across from the main plaza and without charge. The narrow cobblestone streets at downtown are great fun and can be a challenge to walk on them, especially those who run from east to west up the mountainside in the El Cerro and Gringo Gulch neighborhoods, this last one is where Liz Taylor and Richard Burton lived. The tiny island at South Downtown end, the Isla Rio Cuale, offers you a flea market, restaurants and shops as well as an interesting museum, an active cultural center and amazing green spaces.
