Hermosillo, Sonora


Located in the central part of the second largest state of Mexico, Sonora, its capital city Hermosillo, is east of the Sea of Cortez and Bahia of Kino, north of San Carlos and Guaymas, west of the Dam Abelardo Rodriguez, San Pedro de la Cueva, and Villa Pesquera, and south of Magdalena, Santa Ana, and Nogales. Hermosillo or City of the Sun, offers its visitors museums, churches, squares, recreational parks, golf courses, nightlife, and a variety of tourist attractions.

Inhabited firstly by Seri and Pima people, Hermosillo was founded in the year 1700 with the name of Santisima Trinidad del Pitic when the ruling Spanish authority was established.

Hermosillo features beautiful architecture that can be admired in its cathedral of "La Asuncion", The "Del Carmen" and Holy Spirit Chapels, the Zaragoza Square where a nice Moorish kiosk is placed, and the Goverment Palace, among other examples.

Modern buildings include the Public University, the Batuc Church, and public spaces like Madero Park or Three Towns Square.

Just next to Hermosillo, on the west side, is the Abelardo Rodriguez Dam which is an ideal place for fishing.

Hermosillo offers also cultural spaces with interesting displays, like the Sonora Museum, the House of Culture, the Popular Arts Museum, the Seri Museum, and the Ecological Center, where the flora and fauna of the region are preserved.

Different theaters are located in the city of the Sun, like the outdoor theater of the DIF, the outdoor theater of La Sauceda, the Civic Auditorium of Sonora, the COBACH Theater -Auditorium, the Theater of the City, and the Theater Emiliana de Zubeldia, among others.

Beaches, forest, and desert are some breathtaking natural attractions in the second largest state of Mexico, Sonora. Bahia of Kino, a gorgeous beach with white sand, or La Pintada, where ancient cave paintings can be admired, are only two definitely enjoyable places to visit really close to Hermosillo.

Hermosillo features hotels for different budgets and restaurants with exquisite regional dishes and international cuisine.

Among delicious traditional dishes of Sonora, everyone should try the "Chivichangas" made with wheat flour "tortillas", as well as the famous "mochomos" and "coyotas".

With excellent tourist infrastructure and modern recreational facilities that include sports clubs and race tracks, the city offers artistic events and interesting conventions.
