Ciudad Valles has been called the Great Door to the Huasteca, the region where this interesting city is located, within the state of San Luis Potosi.
It was founded with a longer name, Santiago de los Valles de Oxitipa; however, since the XIX century, the shorter name, Ciudad Valles, became the official form.
Ancient sites were inhabited by Huasteco people until the arrival of the Spanish conquerors in places surrounding the current location of the city, like Tamtoc, Tanquian, and Tancanhitz. The main city asset is the warmth of its friendly people. But Ciudad Valles offers also great architecture, gorgeous landscapes, and beautiful natural settings. Perhaps one of the advantage of Ciudad Valles is its extraordinary location. Nearby Ciudad Valles, interesting archaeological sites can be visited, such as Tamtoc and El Consuelo. And the waterfall of Tamul and other natural beauties like "El Nacimiento" or the "Sotano de las Golondrinas" are truly visitable destinations. Ciudad Valles is considered the second most important city of the state of San Luis Potosi. When visiting Valles, tourists should know the main square, the Temple of Santiago de los Valles, the Monument to Ciudad Valles, and the City Hall. Nearby Ciudad Valles, a visit to the Tamasopo area is really worthy. Outstanding beauty in this area can be appreciated in places such as Cascaditas, Cascadas, Trampolin, Puente de Dios, Paso Ancho, Cascada del Aguacate, and the river Las Adjuntas next to the community known as Tambaca. | |
