Loreto, Los Cabos

Loreto, in the coast of the Sea of Cortes, is about 350 km. (220 miles) north of La Paz, the capital city of the state of Baja California Sur in the northwest part of Mexico. To the west, Loreto borders with the Trans-peninsular Highway and the mountains of Sierra Giganta; to the east, with Sea of Cortes; to the south with a dry creek called Arroyo Loreto, and to the north with Mulege. Loreto is well known for its fishing possibilities, which is its main tourist attraction. Besides, this city of Mexico is considered the oldest human settlement on the Peninsula of Baja California.

Loreto, facing the Sea of Cortes and about 350 km or 220 miles north of La Paz, was founded by Jesuit missionaries in 1752. Its mission, named Our Lady of Loreto, still stands there as one of the oldest in the Californias and as an interesting museum, preserving historical documents.

Loreto is regarded as one of the hotspots in the southern Baja Peninsula and has a wide variety of attractions to offer.

Sport fishing and Sea kayaking are among the most popular things to do for the Loreto visitor. Some of the species that attract tourists to fish are Yellow-tail, Sailfish, Marlin, and Wahoo.

Many activities can be undertaken in Loreto including diving, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, and camping.

Given the fact that Loreto is a fishing town, the most common dish is seafood. However, other dishes include authentic Mexican food and international cuisines.

Loreto in Baja California features excellent lodging options as well as low budget alternatives. Besides, you will find all inclusive hotels with plenty of activities for your vacations.
