Loreto, facing the Sea of Cortes and about 350 km or 220 miles north of La Paz, was founded by Jesuit missionaries in 1752. Its mission, named Our Lady of Loreto, still stands there as one of the oldest in the Californias and as an interesting museum, preserving historical documents.
Loreto is regarded as one of the hotspots in the southern Baja Peninsula and has a wide variety of attractions to offer. Sport fishing and Sea kayaking are among the most popular things to do for the Loreto visitor. Some of the species that attract tourists to fish are Yellow-tail, Sailfish, Marlin, and Wahoo.
