To come to Punta Sam you can take a bus from downtown (look for Route 8) or a taxi from the Hotel Zone. Water shuttles depart directly from the Hotel Zone. Punta Sam is the departing point for car ferries heading to the 2 main islands next to Cancun: Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.
Staying at one of the hotels or beautiful villas in this section of Cancun allows you to enjoy the spectacular sunrises and the soothing sounds of the Caribbean Sea. Besides, tourists love to take a stroll on the white sandy shores of Punta Sam beach and relax with the breathtaking views.
Between Punta Sam and Puerto Juarez, one of the four existing pre-Hispanic sites within Cancun can be visited: El Meco. Although being one of the smallest Mayan archaeological sites in the region, El Meco played an important part communicating Isla Mujeres, to which it belongs today. El Meco was first occupied in the early classic period. It was also an important reference for coastal navigation even at night. The other three Mayan sites are El Rey, La Duna, and El Cerrito.
