Cancun - Hotel Zone, Cancun

Cancun is a fashionable tourist destination renowned for the stunning beauty of its beaches colored with the amazing tones of the Caribbean sea. Mexico's number one vacation destiny can be divided in 2 sections, downtown and the Hotel Zone. Cancun's Hotel Zone was established in 1971 and is a narrow 7 shaped island of limestone located between a large lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. It is connected to main land by two bridges located at the beginning and at the end of the island.

The hotel zone was the first section developed in Cancun and features 25 kilometers of extent land with one easy and well signaled street avenue that connects downtown Cancun and the hotel zone. Boulevard Kukulcan is the most recognized avenue in the city and host the numerous striking hotels and mega tourist developments established in the area, as well as some of the most prominent restaurants, clubs, discos, shopping malls and exclusive boutiques. There is also an archaeological site, and located at the end of the boulevard an aquatic park.

Taxis and the public bus system are the most simple and efficient ways to get around Cancun. A car rental is also a good option if you rather have your own vehicle to move around.

The first section of Cancun’s Hotel Zone starts at the intersection of Bonampak Avenue and Kukulcan Boulevard and it ends at Caracol beach and Punta Cancun. Along this first section of the hotel zone you will find many attractions, including Captain Hook and Playa Linda Dock, where a huge panoramic tower and a museum of typical Mexican handicrafts are visited by tourists who also enjoyed a nice sidewalk, or just watch people walking by, riding bicycles, skating, jogging or simply strolling under the shade of palm trees.

Playa Langosta is a little further and besides a nice beach you will find a dock offering boat rides to Isla Mujeres. Of course, you will find a lot of hotels by the Pok ta Pok Golf course along the way. Closer to Punta Cancun, you will find a supermarket for your convenience.

Punta Cancun is located between Km. 8.5 and 9.5 of Cancun's Hotel Zone and is known as Party Center due to the large collection of nightclubs, restaurants, and shopping available in the area.

In Punta Cancun you will find countless attractions related mainly to the famous nightlife of Cancun. Most of the nightclubs are located within this area and you can easily reach each any within walking distance. In this zone you will find famous mall like Plaza Caracol and Plaza Forum, and plenty of restaurants, clothing shops, jewelries, handicrafts and lots of shops to find the perfect souvenir from Cancun.

From Km 9.5 and until Km 21 of Blvd Kukulcan is the newest section of Cancun and where you will find numerous hotels, marinas, restaurants, nightclubs and even a Mayan ruins site and an Aquatic Park. This last part of the hotel zone boosts some of the most exclusive malls in the country such as Plaza La Isla and Plaza Kukulcan, where you will find dozens of well known clothing, jewelry and entertainment brands.

For tourists who like archaeological zones, El Rey, which is small site located in Cancun, is an interesting site to visit. it is known as the Kinich Ahau Group after a carved stone human head was found there. This Post-Classic site is made up of two plazas, buildings, temples, and mural paintings.
