You can reach Tijuana by plane since its international airport, close to the city, is served by major national and international airlines. Regional, national, and bi-national bus lines connect Tijuana with important cities both in the north of Mexico and the west of the country: from Mexicali to Hermosillo, to Mazatlan and Lazaro Cardenas in Michoacan. Declared as a city in 1889, Tijuana has experience fast economic and demographic growth. Close to the international border, Tijuana Zona Rio represents the modern side of the city. Shopping malls, great stores, banks and financial services, hotels, and travel agencies are just some of the interesting possibilities of this part of town. More than 30 restaurants are located in this area where it is possible to satisfy every palate. Cuisines such as Argentinian, Brazilian, Mexican, Chinese, Mediterranean, Italian, French, or Japanese, among others, are available in Tijuana. Visiting Tijuana is an incredible experience that includes a beautiful region with extensive coastline, mountains, valleys, and deserts, all within a two hour drive. Rosarito, for instance, is located only at a 25 minute drive south. Beautiful beaches, comfortable hotels, and excellent gastronomic establishments welcome tourist here. Tecate, at a 30 minute east drive, offers an internationally recognized spa and interesting cave paintings in a place named "El Vallecito".
