Tres Palos Lagoon is a an incredible way of experiencing Mexican wildlife, right beside the tourist destination of Acapulco. This freshwater lagoon is home to several species of fauna and flora, especially tropical birds.

Located about 20 miles southeast of Downtown Acapulco, between Puerto Marques and the international Airport, you can reach Tres Palos Lagoon by regular bus from La Costera Avenue or by taxi using Pinotepa Nacional road.

This huge lagoon was the set used to shoot the first Tarzan movies, for its perfectly intact nature. It has numerous species such as herons and waterfowls which use the mangrove around to nest. The lagoon is one of the best places to enjoy bird watching in Acapulco. This huge freshwater lagoon (9 miles long and 3.6 miles wide) is home to several species of fish. There is a well known beach, separating the lagoon from the Pacific Ocean known as Barra Vieja, where you can enjoy several seafood restaurants serving the freshest fish in the local dish Pescado a la Talla, a spicy roasted fish, right from the Tres Palos lagoon. You will also find horseback ride tours available to discover the surrounding of the lagoon in the most ecological way.

Several small boats are at hand to take a tour of Tres Palos with a guide who will show you the unspoiled nature of the area. In case you are interested in a more adventurous transport, you can rent your own jet ski and explore the canals around the lagoon and watch the tropical birds.
